Quick weekend in Berlin
Berlin is such a cool city, arguably the coolest. I am lucky enough to have a friend who lives there and acts as my tour guide and host when I visit. While I was only there for a weekend, we had a great time!
Oddly enough, the first thing we did was go for a burrito at Machete in Friedrichshain. We then headed to C/O Berlin for the Anton Corbijn retrospective (I can never escape the Dutch!) His body of work is enormous and spans decades, but what amazed me most was the level of intimacy of some of the photos. It is clear that Corbijn has functional working relationships with the artists and they have complete trust in him. We thoroughly enjoyed the show.
That night we went out to Wilde Renate. I love the rebuild, casual, slightly rundown aesthetic of so many of the places in Berlin - it isn't about the place, it's about the party. Wilde Renate is housed in an old villa, there are several different rooms playing varied styles of electronica/techno. You can wander through admiring the unusual decor and peeling wallpaper, dance or even find a dark corner to hide in if that is what you're looking for. We danced all night and had an absolute blast, but we were useless on Sunday.
