Wassenaar is a small town about half way between Leiden and Den Haag. Located very near the coast, this village is where I live as an au pair. Wassenaar, though very small, has a big reputation as it is one of the wealthiest areas in the Netherlands. King Willem-Alexander and his family even live here. There is even a song about Wassenaar, which is quite ridiculous and everyone here knows.
Small, but beautiful, I would prefer to live in a city rather than a sleepy village but it is very nice. It even boasts the best ice cream in the Netherlands, Lucianos. Wassenaar is quite calm and is usually shut down around 8 pm. I love the large beautiful trees, the woods and the proximity to the beach here. Leiden and Den Haag are easily accessible by either bus or bike, which makes the entire country easy to reach. I can usually be in any of the cities in the Randstad within an hour.
