Kings Day - Amsterdam
Unfortunately, I was having too much fun and didn't take very many pictures at all, so I apologize for the limited images, they don't really represent my day.
Kings Day is April 27, the birthday of King Willem-Alexander. The entire country shuts down and takes to the streets to celebrate. I was in Amsterdam, where most of the partying is happening, of course. Some friends of mine live very centrally located in Amsterdam and had a party. Mostly, we sat in front of their house on the street and people watched.
There are bands, large displays, the canals are filled with boats and most everyone is wearing orange. The vibe was really amazing. This year, they had forecasted rain and bad weather, so I am told is was much less crowded than usual, but it was still a blast! People stopped by all day and I eventually left with some friends to go wander the streets. Even when it did rain a bit, people were in high spirits and dancing to the music on the outdoor stages or just having fun with their friends. I loved it and will be looking forward to next Kings Day!
